Breaking Ground on Flagship City Commons: A New Link in the Heart of Downtown Erie

Today, we’re putting shovels in the dirt for something we’ve been dreaming about for a long time - Flagship City Commons.

This new development isn’t just a building. It’s a physical connection tying together Perry Square, the Flagship City Food Hall, the Country Fair Flagship Store, and our 5th & Peach Street parking garage with a public, glass-covered pedestrian arcade. This stunning glass-covered walkway will run between North Park Row and 5th Street, linking major destinations and creating a space that’s welcoming to the entire community.

When it’s complete, Flagship City Commons will feature:

  • Restaurants and retail on the first floor, spilling into public gathering spaces.

  • Modern office space on the upper floors. They’ll be flexible, collaborative, and ready for the next wave of Erie’s businesses.

  • A rooftop event space with views of Perry Square and 5th Street, offering an entirely new vantage point for celebrating everything happening downtown.

In total, the building will span nearly 49,000 square feet across four stories. And while the numbers are impressive, it’s the impact that matters most. This project will connect people and places, strengthen downtown’s walkability, and keep the momentum of our revitalization going strong.

“This project not only strengthens the connections between downtown landmarks but also reflects our commitment to revitalizing Erie’s historic core,” says Drew Whiting, EDDC CEO.

Construction starts right after the groundbreaking, with completion expected in early 2027. We’ll be sharing progress every step of the way, because Flagship City Commons isn’t just our project. It’s Erie’s and you’re not going to want to miss a single update.
